Christophe Tassan was born in Avignon in 1962 and began his sommelier career in the early 80’s at l’Auberge
de France. His family owned and operated this local gem of a restaurant for three generations, steps from the
Palace of the Popes.
He is a child of Provence, a region of exuberant unassuming folk with melodious accents; a region of simple
Growing up on the banks of the Rhône River, he felt blessed to often observe, smell, feel this unique
landscape that gives birth to the Rhône Valley wines. Christophe received an education learning about the
secrets of wine while tasting in the cellars of the local vintners; studying and graduating at Avignon’s
restaurant school and the Rhone Valley Wine university. He won the title of 2nd best young French
sommelier in 1988, Best sommelier “South of France” in 1992, became in 2000 Master sommelier UDSF and
got rewarded in 2004 with the title of MOF Sommelier (Meilleur Ouvrier de France).
The family restaurant got sold and Christophe started to travel the world to teach about wines and wine
service in Asia, the Americas, and Europe. He became wine director for George Perrier at the legendary “Le
Bec Fin” in Philadelphia (2005), wine director for Alain Ducasse in Las Vegas (2008) then wine director for
MGM’s Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino (2010). Since 2013 he shares his passion for wine with the club
members being the wine director for The Battery and Birch Family’s Estate in Sonoma.
