John is a writer, speaker and hospitality consultant, and Canada’s 1st Master
Sommelier. He’s a partner/principal critic for WineAlign.com, and has written for Wine &
Spirits Magazine, En Route, the Globe and Mail, Vines, Wine Access, and Nation’s
Restaurant News. He authored Pairing Food and Wine For Dummies and Sommelier
Management, and his latest book, Volcanic Wines, Salt, Grit and Power, won the
coveted André Simon Award and made the top drinks books of 2016 in The Guardian,
Forbes Magazine, Decanter, Globe & Mail and JancisRobinson.com. It has also earned
him the distinction of being ”one of the world’s foremost authorities on the subject”
according to Drinks Business Magazine. John has been listed as “Canada’s best-known
sommelier” in Meininger’s Wine Business International.
John has developed and delivered trade seminars for dozens of wine trade
organizations worldwide and teaches regularly for the Court of Master Sommeliers,
WSET, and the Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers.
