I am a sommelier, a wine writer, an educator and speaker. My first job in the hospitality industry was at 16 as a hostess in a restaurant. I fell in love with the industry right then, and kept working in the industry throughout my studies which were non-wine related (BA in Modern Languages and Literature and MBA in International Trade). But I was studying wine on my own and reading every book I could get my hands on. Went on to spend my whole life in the industry. From hostess to busgirl to server to bartender to manager to sommelier. Did them all

What excites you about the Sommelier industry/community?
Everything! The constant learning, sharing, growing better and stronger together. The “internationality” of it: no matter where we are from, with different customs and foods, we all bring people together through the culture of wine.
Why does continuous education in the wine industry matter to you?
because it is such a constantly evolving world, staying up to date and well informed is crucial to those who want to stay at the top of their game. Consumers are also more and more educated and knowledgeable. We need to keep up! And no matter which field we’re in, the best people in any trade are those who continuously strive to become better.
